Applications Now Being Accepted for City of Champaign Township Supervisor

City of Champaign Township Supervisor Kyle Patterson submitted his resignation effective November 18, 2025. The Township is now accepting applications from qualified individuals to be considered for appointment to the position for the remainder of the term until May 2029.

Qualifications

Per the Illinois Township Code, an individual wishing to be appointed Township Supervisor must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Must be a member of the same political party as the incumbent (Democratic Party);
  • Must be a legally registered voter in the City of Champaign Township;
  • Must have been a resident of the City of Champaign Township (co-terminus with the City of Champaign) for at least one year prior to appointment; and
  • Must not have been convicted of any “infamous crime, bribery, perjury, or other felony.”

(The individual shall establish their political party affiliation by their record of voting in party primary elections or by holding or having held an office in a political party organization before the appointment. If the individual has not voted in a party primary election or is not holding or has not held an office in a political party organization before the appointment, then the individual shall establish their political party affiliation by their record of participating in a political party’s nomination or election caucus.)

Application Process

Applications to fill the position can be downloaded from the City of Champaign Township’s website at cctownship.com. Completed applications must be received by the City of Champaign Town Clerk before 5:00 pm on December 16, 2025. Applications can be:

(1) Emailed to cityclerk@champaignil.gov with the subject line “Application for Township Supervisor”; or
(2) Physically delivered to the City Clerk at 102 N. Neil St., Champaign, IL 61820.

Appointment

The Town Board intends to interview qualified candidates during Town Board meetings to be held on January 6 and 7, 2026. The Town Board will vote on the appointment of a qualified individual to fill the vacancy in the office of Township Supervisor at a subsequent Special Town Board Meeting to take place on January 13, 2026.
